Meghavi Patel met Olive in 2014 during a trip to India, when he was just a puppy. He was born on the streets close to the founding family's existing residence in India.
Having Olive in the logo of the organization shows the founder's love for her best friend and serves as a sign of respect, which all street dogs deserve. Over the years, Meghavi made sure to get Olive and his pack spayed/neutered, vaccinated and taken care of daily by a dedicated individual who lives in the area. Whenever Meghavi visited her home in India, he recognized her immediately and came up to her wagging his tail in excitement. For 7 years, no matter where her itinerary took her on her visits to India, she always scheduled some quality time for Olive.
Meghavi adopted Olive and his brother Basil, and brought them to Toronto in March 2021. Their journey can be seen on @streetdogbroson Instagram!
It is with grief and loss that we are sharing the passing away of Olive in September 2025. With a quiet courage only dogs can carry, Olive had a great weight within him - multiple lung tumours, yet he chose not to burden his family with it. For months, he walked beside the Patel family, tail wagging, eyes shining, breathing love into every ordinary moment. He held his silence, not out of weakness, but out of loyalty, so that his days with the family would stay bright.
Only in the last few days of his journey did his body reveal the truth. Even then, his spirit was stronger than the sickness. He went swiftly, with dignity, by his own choice and at his own time, carrying himself with the same grace that defined his life. Olive was not defined by cancer. He was defined by his strength, his devotion, and the immeasurable love he gave to everyone. To endure so much, and to keep giving love until the very end, is the mark of a brave soul.
Olive was a warrior, gentle and steadfast. His strength kept him beside his family for as long as he possibly could. He was the reason Animal Care Zone was started and his legacy will continue on through the work that ACZ continues to do. Meghavi will keep his memories close to her heart and she will remember him as a V.I.P - A Very Important 'Patel'.
