Need something strong, smooth and consistent in your life? Whiskey might be just what you are thirsty for! I’m a 1 year old Husky mix with zest for life. But not too much zest. Juuuuust the right amount. For my age and suspected breed(s) I’m a medium energy level. For reasons unknown, I ended up at a high kill dog pound in California. They say I was found as a 'stray' roaming the streets. I don't know what this means, but I was on a '72-hour euthanasia list.' Apparently I would go to sleep forever, but - no, no, no I don't want to sleep... I want to explore, go on walks, meet other dogs, eat treats, go to the beach and so much more! Now I’m living the comfy life with my foster parents and ready to steal the hearts of my furever family.
I love being outdoors. Whether it’s rolling around in the grass or going for binge walks. I get plenty of walks at my foster home, which helps me get all my pent up energy out. The best thing is, after going out on a walk I will happily come home and take a [long nap]. I am also crate-trained and happily go inside my crate. This means if you want to go have dinner at a restaurant without me, it's okay, I'll be fine in my crate. As long as I get a pre and post walk though! I also sleep in my crate at night.
There are many other pawsitives too. I am great with fellow dogs. I don't bully any of my dog friends. I'm a sweet, gentle boy. Someone even called me 'submissive' with other dogs. I would love to have a play-mate at home, or at least some play-dates where I can meet other dogs. I also walk pretty well on a leash. You can easily direct me where you want me to go and I'll follow. I interact nicely with strangers outside. I'm good in the car, I will just lay down on the back seat or look outside the window. Doorbells don't phase me and I don't bark at the mailman. I actually don't bark much at all. I also know how to play independently, so I hope you have a lot of bones and chew toys for me. They help keep me occupied.
I am a lover and I’m not afraid to show it, I will give you plenty of hugs and kisses if you have the tolerance for it. I tend to be trusting and will quickly roll over and show you my belly, as I do enjoy a good scratch! My fosters say I’m very smart. When I was rescued I already knew a few commands like “sit” “paw” and even “wait.” and they are working with me everyday, teaching me “leave it” and “let’s go.” They said I’m a fast learner and I’m making great pawgress.
I also live with 3 older cats. They are separated from me by a dog gate, and I am okay with that. Sometimes I get curious and excited if they come too close to me, so I would need to be supervised.
I think I would be a perfect fit for any medium active to active and/or outdoorsy family or hooman. One thing you should know about me is I need a bit of help working on my general manners. I am a young pup at heart so sometimes I will try and get my way with you. Don't let me off the hook! Be the strong leader I am looking for, I'm counting on you. With a little bit of obedience training, I know I can be the perfect family dog! I’m a working dog by 'breed' so a family that can give me structure, leadership and mental stimulation would be a perfect mixer.I know I can be a perfect companion, if someone would just give me a shot. How do you take your Whiskey?
*Side note from ACZ - As we do with all our dogs, ACZ will offer 2 complimentary training sessions for Whiskey's new adoptive family. There are a lot of young, eager to please dogs at high kill shelters all across California. The state is truly going through a 'dog crisis.' Please adopt a shelter dog and save their life, literally.
