Hello there! My name is Voldemort, but most people call me Voldi. I heard that I am named after a villain from a popular fantasy series. Well, I hope he was a kickass villain. I hope he had a big personality and was bold, confident and quirky – like me! I may not be your usual version of a “handsome dog,” but they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I’m looking for my forever family who can accept me the way I am.

I have been through a lot in my short life. I come from the most poverty-ridden state in India, known as Chhattisgarh. I was hit by a train in August 2020, and I lost my foot, nose, and a part of my mouth was damaged. Unfortunately, train accidents are all too common in India. My foot was amputated, making me a tripod. However, there was no vet in Chhattisgarh that was willing to help with my exposed nasal cavity. I visited so many vets and they all said nothing could be done. That didn’t stop me from having fun.  I wouldn’t let anything dampen my spirit! At the shelter, I played and ran around just like any other dog. I made friends with most of the female dogs there (I’m a ladies’ man, you know).

In March 2021, I was so excited because a veterinarian was found who was confident she could help me. She was in Mumbai, which is a 19-hour train ride away from where I was. The plan was for me to go there, but during that time there was some virus that was affecting a lot of hoomans, so it was unsafe for the volunteers to take me there. I finally made my way to the vet in Mumbai on October 2021 and got the reconstructive flap surgery that I needed!

90% of my exposed nasal cavity is covered now, which means I am now much less susceptible to infections than before. The 10% exposure that remains is meant to function as my nostrils so that I can breathe. As of now, all of my treatment is done in India. There is no follow up care that needs to happen in Canada. I can eat food on my own as well.

Okay, enough about boring medical information. Let’s talk more about the REAL me. I love chew toys and squeaky toys. I had a chicken shaped squeaky toy in Chhattisgarh which I absolutely loved.. Maybe you can find one like that for me? I will also play tag with you. If you run, I will run behind you. I am a spunky boy with a fun-loving personality. I love all humans, even younger ones. Currently, at my foster home, I love running around with the 8-year-old girl. I go on 2 walks a day and I am completely potty trained. I like female dogs more than male dogs. I need time to get used to a male dog and slow introductions help me. I may bark at other dogs while I am walking on leash, but will do better if I can meet them slowly. I am not so great with cats. I bark and bark until I scare them away. Maybe I'll be used to them slowly?  I also love snuggling with humans. I’ll lay down with my head in your lap or on your leg, and just let you give me all the scratches in the world.

I am a flexible boy. I am open to a home with no other pets, or perhaps 1 other dog.  I'm not sure about cats. I think too many pets in the home would overwhelm me. I do like some space and independence. Do I prefer an apartment or a house?  Oh, I don’t care at all. I just want you to love me for ME, and I will love you for YOU. It doesn’t matter to me where you live. If you are like me and have gone through some bad times without losing hope, then I think we’ll make a good match.
