Hi, I’m Trixie! I’m a very sweet girl learning about the world that I didn’t know much about until just recently. I came from a small apartment with many other dogs and I had never been to the vet, on a leash or even outside before. Now that I know the outside world exists, I can’t wait to see and smell it all with you! I love going for walks and am very good on leash, not picky or stubborn about which direction we go. I am still a little intimidated by most dogs, and would appreciate a slow introduction.

At home I love to play with my rope toy and chew on bones. My absolute favourite thing is you petting me. I will let you know I’m ready by coming over and putting my head in your lap. I am mostly cool, calm and collected. I don’t get skittish or anxious from noises like coffee grinders, blenders, microwave beeps or car & truck sounds. The exception to this is hair dryers. Do. Not. Like. If given the choice between having my hair dried and dying of pneumonia because of cold wet hair, please sign me up for pneumonia twice.

I was not house trained at all before getting to my foster home but have made great strides. I will let you know when it’s time to go out by suddenly getting up and walking around near the door. I usually go for 2 or 3, 30 minute walks a day and a few more quick pee breaks in the backyard. I shed a little bit of hair but nothing overwhelming. I am crate trained and sleep in there just fine, even though the rest of my foster family sleeps in a different room. I get my meals in there too and am happy to go in and out of there at various points of the day.

I am learning my name, it might take a few times calling it before I come over. I definitely know “no” and will stop whatever I’m doing when I hear it. My favourite person is my foster mom. I also like my foster dad but mom is the one I want to be around the most. When she is out of sight for too long, you’ll hear some whining from me, but it’s something I’m getting better at.

I haven’t spent much time around children or animals other than 2 dogs, but high energy and excitement seems to make me a little anxious. I’m still learning how to play and I’ll be relying on you to show me what’s acceptable in your house. I might do better in a home with kids above toddler age and dogs my size or a bit bigger. I will sometimes sound a low growl when things get loud and there’s too much activity right around me. I am not destructive at all, no chewing of wires, furniture, clothes or shoes. If you are ready for me to love you with my whole heart and can be patient with me as I try to figure out my place in this new world, please get in touch.
