🐾 Meet Moose 🐾
Hi, I'm Moose. Yes, I know, the name fits. I'm a one-year-old Doberman Pittie mix, and I tip the scales at 85+ pounds of pure, unapologetic gentleness. I was pulled from a high-kill shelter in LA when I was just about out of time — one of the most urgent dogs who. It's literally a miracle I got out. But here I am, demander of chin scratches and all, ready to tell you my story.
Let me be honest with you from the start: I'm a big dog with a big heart and a few big feelings. I can be nervous around strangers, and men especially need to earn my trust before I'll fully relax around them. I know, I know — look at me. You'd think nothing could scare this guy. But beneath all this muscle is a sensitive soul who just needs people to go slowly and let me come to them. The good news? Once I trust you, I am yours. My foster dad is living proof — I wasn't sure about him at first, but now I'm completely attached. It just took a little time and patience, and it was absolutely worth it.
On walks, I am a good boy! I stay right next to you — or just slightly behind, like a very large, very handsome shadow. I don't pull, I listen when you call me, and I'm learning to stay focused even with distractions around. Squirrels and lizards do get my attention, not going to lie, but it's nothing uncontrollable. I'm a work in progress, and I'm a good student.
I love other dogs. Like, really love them. I do great when meeting new dogs. At the shelter, I was a play-group helper. I helped other dogs become comfortable enough to play. In my foster home I currently live with 2 other big dogs and I do great with them!
At home, I do okay when left alone — I once made a questionable decision involving my bed, but we don't talk about that anymore. I'm crate trained and generally relaxed when my foster family steps out. When they come back though? Full celebration. I live for my people. My love language is physical touch. If you give me scratches under my chin and pets on my head — I will melt into you completely. You know that thing people say about big dogs not knowing their size? That's me. I will attempt to be a lap dog and I will not apologize.
What I really need now is more exposure to the world — dog-friendly restaurants, the beach, busy outdoor spaces — so I can keep building my confidence. Every new experience helps me become a little less afraid and a little more Moose. I hope to explore more of the world with you! My ideal home has patient humans who understand that trust is something I build brick by brick. A dog sibling would make me absolutely thrive. And if you're a man reading this — don't be discouraged. I just need you to let me set the pace. I promise I'll get there.
