Hi there! I’m Daisy, a 1 year old black lab mix with a heart full of love and a lot of resilience. Life hasn’t been easy for me lately, but I’m learning how good it feels to be safe and loved. Not long ago, I was living in a kennel at a high-kill shelter for 30 days. I was very scared of people when they approached my kennel. I would try to hide and avoid eye contact. I stayed in my kennel 24/7 and refused to leave. I did not go on a single walk and did not want to interact with anyone. I was afraid, traumatized and frozen. Then I found myself on a euthanasia list, and I didn’t understand what that meant—only that I wasn’t ready to give up. Luckily, I was rescued.
But just as I thought things were looking up, my foster family lost their home in the Los Angeles fires. Now, I’m staying with a new foster who’s helping me get back on my paws. I'm slowly coming out of my shell at my foster family's house and trying to live the stress-free comfy life.
Here’s what I can tell you about me: My foster says I’m "super sweet" and love to be as close to my human as possible. I am a snuggly lover and I’m not afraid to show it, I will give you plenty of hugs and kisses if you have the tolerance for it. I tend to be trusting and will quickly roll over and show you my belly, as I do enjoy a good scratch! I’m working on crate training to help me feel secure when I’m on my own. I’ll admit, I get nervous when my human leaves, but I’m learning every day that they’ll always come back. Oh, and I am pretty much potty trained, I usually politely hover by the door when I need to go outside.
I’ve started to explore the world, and while I’m still a bit shy, I’m gaining confidence quickly. I LOVE saying hello to other dogs and humans, and I even made some new friends through the fence at the dog park (I love to play with other dogs). Treats are my favorite (I’m very food-motivated!), and car rides are my favorite—especially when they involve a stop for a pup cup at Starbucks. Guess what? I have a favorite barista already! My foster mom tries her best to socialize me and takes me all over the place -- pet stores, malls, restaurants, even stores like Nordstrom or Sephora. It's a big world out there and I'm excited to explore it with my human.
I also love toys and chews, so I hope you have plenty of them ready for me. I'll be happy to sit and chew on something, while you watch TV. I’m a gentle, loving, little shadow who will follow you anywhere. Because I am not doing so great at staying home alone, I would prefer someone who works from home or is at least hybrid so that I can have my hooman around me most of the time. My fosters say I’m very smart. I’m a fast learner and I’m making great pawgress at basic commands like 'sit', 'stay', 'come', etc. Whether you live in a house or an apartment, I’ll be happy as long as I have regular exercise and plenty of love.
I think I would be a perfect fit for anyone with a medium active lifestyle. I am a young pup at heart, so I would benefit from obedience training and improving my general manners. With your help, I know I can be the perfect family dog!
Are you the forever family I’ve been waiting for? I can’t wait to meet you and start our new adventure together.
*Side note from ACZ - We do not understand how such sweet dogs like Daisy end up at the dog pound. There are a lot of kind, young and eager to please dogs at high kill shelters all across California. The state is truly going through a 'dog crisis.' Please adopt a shelter dog and save their life, literally. They just want love and nothing more.
